Two-thirds of black women, get little to no leisure time activity and part of that reason is because we don't have leisure time. We have to carve it out and create it for ourselves. We have to fight for our lives every single day. Karen: What is the first step that we can do to start changing laws? Etan Thomas:
Make sure you understand who was elected from the local level. Who is going to be in charge of putting the police chief in place? What is that police chief's history? (pertaining to people not understanding the trauma that people of color experience when interacting with the police)
Damario Solomon-Simmons: We have to understand what we're dealing with right now. We are literally in a state of war, where our black bodies are considered to be offensive weapons for so many people. We have to condition ourselves and train ourselves in, how do we deal with these type of situations when they occur because they happen so often. HBCU Storytellers Docuseries Preview: 400 Years Later Lurie Daniel Favors:
I saw a statistic recently that said if roughly 4% of a population engages in protracted resistance (in the streets, civil/civic engagement, non-violent protest), that is the tipping point that you need, in order to actually create lasting change. If that number is sustained, typically, you will see social change. Not just here in America, but that tends to be the case all over the world. If you leave or lose a job, you can roll that 401K over into an IRA (roll it over, not cash it out). This way, you're ensuring that your money leaves with you and oftentimes, you'll have more investment options. DO NOT CASH IT OUT! 401k is pre-tax money. If you cash it out, you'll get hit with penalties and taxes (probably close to around 45-50%).
Alligators have a wider u-shaped snout.
Crocodiles have a more pointed & v-shaped snout. Karen: Black people are in crisis. People are afraid for their lives in the streets. There is police brutality and no justice. Eric Garner, no justice. You have neighbors calling the cops. No matter where you are in this country right now, if you're a person of color, you're under siege, particularly a black person. Black women aren't even being heard, even by their medical folks. They're not taking their pain seriously. We're in crisis. What do we do?
