Caller recommendation: Read all of Jane Elliott's & Jacqueline Battalora's books. Watch their videos. Create the future that you want to see.
See the future and bank on yourself! Lurie Daniel Favors:
Element of Sankofa (West African Principle): "We should look to history to guide how we proceed in the future." Understand the past, to know where you are today, so that you can plan to go forward. Diagnostic imaging has very high error rates in certain communities.
In communities of color, it could be sometimes up to 30% inaccuracies on the readings. What did the findings attribute to this? The people watching them were tired, and/or not well-trained. Human error was consistent. Today's powerful message is brought to you by Lurie Daniels-Favors, (Afro State of Mind): "We need to create the institutions and the spaces for our children to know who they are and to know what happened to them because if your history started on a slave ship, you're happy being a N-word. If you think your history started on a slave ship, I'll write music that says, I'll kill you, I don't care. If your history started on a slave ship, you'll write songs that say, I don't give a F about your feelings and that will be your hook. And that will be what everyone in your community dances to. I don't give a F about your feelings, so when I shoot you and take your life, I don't care about you. I don't care about your mama. I don't care about nothing because I'm numb to all of this. I don't even like being in this body."
MEN OF COURAGE BARBERSHOP CHALLENGE: "Freedom is a costly thing. It truly isn't free because if you think you're free and you do nothing with that, then you've tied yourself up again and then it's always somebody else's fault. As opposed to the thing in your mind that says, 'Of course, I can do that. Of course, I belong in this room. Yes, I'm meant to be here'."
