Dementia is the umbrella and Alzheimer's falls underneath...
Teri Williams, One United Bank:
Harriet Tubman did not just fight against slavery and abolitionists. Also fought for women’s voting rights, suffrage. Also, economic justice and wealth building. She fought to own her own home... Let us not let other people define Harriet for us. Let’s know her full history. Caller, Patty, recommended to another caller that they find a local chapter of SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice).
Karen also recommended Robin DiAngelo's book, "White Fragility". Caller (Robert's observation):
Why do people say, African-American, Asian-American and then they say White people. Shouldn't they say, African-American, Asian-American and European-American. Europeans are not indigenous to this country. Dometi Pongo, Journalist MTV News Host, "True Life Crime": (discussed the killing of Mujey Dumbuya) Drew: One of the things that I think that is so important as to why you guys are amplifying this story, is the fact that, young black women, when they go missing, often times, are characterized as a runaway. Or they are not given the attention when they go missing, either from the community or law enforcement that their blond-hair blue-eyed counterparts would get in terms of coming up missing.
Karen: I just discovered that it is mandated, that it is law in several states, that Black History, Civil Rights History, has to be taught in order to graduate and no one is implementing it.
