The reason that people re-engage in stuff (ex. weight gain, smoking, bad relationships), is not because they're stupid. It' because it's affording them something significant.
It's really powerful to have a "why". It's like the quote, if you have a "why" to live for, then you can tolerate the "how". The "how" is the work and the sacrifice associated with the goal. Then, it allows you to tolerate that.
Work without purpose is punishing,
but work with purpose becomes passion.
